Are you a new year’s resolution type of person? I used to be. I gave that up after too many failed attempts to lose weight, read more books, etc, etc. You know the deal!
I wanted to share some tips with you on how to tackle the new year, realistically, so you don’t burn out too fast.

TAKE YOUR TIME
And I mean that. Take it one day at a time. Often times, people get so excited about the new year on the calendar and make radical promises to themselves that they cannot and will not keep. When they fall off the wagon or fail at what they set out to do, they feel sad, depressed even. Take things slow. There are 365 days of the year! You have the entire year to accomplish your goals. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself.
LEAD WITH FAITH NOT FEAR
I am shouting this from my core! I am so guilty of allowing fear to control my actions, that I fail to move my feet and do some of the things that I have set out to accomplish. This year, I told myself that I am going to say yes to all the things I would normally say no to because of fear. God did not place me or you here to live our lives in fear!
Self-care means different things to different people and that’s ok. Whatever self-care looks and feels like to you, do more of that! I am going to write a post all about what self-care means to me, so stay tuned.
This is high on my list of things I’d like to do to take care of myself. Run, walk, jog, lift weights, dance, just stay active!
That’s a loaded statement, I know! Here’s what I mean. Let go of the things that have held you back, kept you down, made you afraid, and causes you stress and grief. Person, place or thing, let it go and clear your mind and your heart. You can thank me later.
HAVE A PLAN
Have a plan for yourself, for your life. Although we know that the creator is in control of what ultimately happens in our life, having some sort of plan and vision for your life is healthy. There’s no way you can have the life you want if you don’t know what kind of life you want. It’s easier to work towards your goal if there’s actually a target that you can aim at!
I know, I know, that’s so cliche. But its true. Sh!t will happen this year that you cannot control. You might get knocked down, and lose direction more than once, but just keep swimming!
